Description

The Platform Engineer manages production applications, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and operational workflows across Heroku, AWS, and DigitalOcean environments. Responsibilities include maintaining uptime and performance, managing review apps, Celery workers and queues, DNS and edge security through Cloudflare, disaster recovery, incident response, and security compliance. The role also involves collaborating with developers to streamline workflows, enforce secure coding practices, maintain monitoring and alerting systems, and optimise platform costs and infrastructure performance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain runbooks, centralised wiki for incident response, and lead post-mortems
• Keep environments up to date, manage backups, disaster recovery drills, and penetration tests
• Optimise performance, infrastructure costs, and maintain Cloudflare DNS and edge security
• Maintain CI pipelines with type checking, linting, and security scanning; enforce test coverage and deploy checks
• Collaborate with Developers to streamline workflows and educate on secure coding practices
• Manage vendor relationships, evaluate third-party services, and track integration quality

Qualifications

• 3+ years operating production apps on Heroku, AWS, DigitalOcean, or similar cloud platforms
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions, Heroku CI, and strong Git fundamentals
• Experience with monitoring and incident response tools such as Sentry and Papertrail
• Solid understanding of IAM, encryption (in transit and at rest), MFA/SSO, and secure configuration practices
• Experience implementing automated backups, restore testing, and maintaining incident runbooks
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with development teams
